Recipient of the 70th Anniversary of the End of the War Foreign Minister’s Commendation

On December 9th, 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the recipients of the 70th Anniversary of the End of the War Foreign Minister's Commendation. From within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Japan in Denver, the Denver Botanic Gardens was named a recipient for their outstanding achievements in promoting understanding of Japanese culture in Denver and their significant contributions to U.S.-Japan exchange by promoting grass-roots level mutual understanding and goodwill between the people of Japan and the United States.

The Denver Botanic Gardens possesses well-developed features such as the Japanese garden, Tea House, and Bonsai Pavilion that showcase Japanese culture. All features are excellently maintained by a Japanese garden expert and local volunteers. By offering the people of Denver and surrounding cities the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate Japanese culture at any time, the Denver Botanic Gardens has contributed greatly in promoting understanding of Japanese culture.

They also offer spaces for Ikebana exhibits and regular Ikebana classes, as well as regular tea ceremony lectures and demonstrations in the Tea House. In addition, they have hosted various events to introduce Japanese culture to the general public such as the cherry blossom tree planting ceremony and Great East Japan Earthquake Memorial and Recovery Reception. Such efforts further highlight the Denver Botanic Gardens’ outstanding achievements in promoting friendly relations on a grass-roots level between the people of Japan and the U.S.

The Foreign Minister's Commendation is awarded to acknowledge individuals and organizations that have shown outstanding achievement and made significant contributions toward promoting friendly relations between Japan and other countries.
