Japanese Anime Film Series & Stop Motion Animator Lecture (November 3,10, 17 & 24, 2014)
The Japan Foundation, Colorado College and the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver are presenting six screenings of Japanese anime at the Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center, Colorado College. On Monday, November 17, Anime Director Hirokazu Minegishi (Stop Motion Animator), will screen his iconic film "Komaneko - The Curious Cat" and demonstrate how to create a Stop Motion film. This event is part of the "Film and New Media Studies" series at the college.

HIROKAZU MINEGISHI profile:
Mr. Minegishi graduated from Tokyo Designer Gakuin College’s Department of Animation and went on to become an assistant creator to Tadanori Okamoto - a classical puppet animator who used a wide variety of materials in sculpting his dolls to depict traditional stories. Some of their works were displayed at the National Film Center’s National Museum of Modern Art, located in Tokyo. Later, he studied under Japan’s master of stop motion animation, Kihachiro Kawamoto. Mr. Kawamoto was a world renowned animator with an original style and expressive, beautifully constructed dolls.
Since 1998, Mr. Minegishi has teamed with director Tsuneo Goda, founder of Dwarf Inc., for various stop motion works. The most notable one is “Domo-kun” which was aired by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and Nickelodeon in 2007. “Komaneko” was created by the same team as Domo-kun. Mr. Minegishi’s commercial animation clients include Kirin Co., Ltd., P&G, Calbee Inc. and many others. He also worked on the movie “Juvenile” as a 3-D computer graphics animator.
EIJI MAESAKA profile: Mr. Maesaka was born in Nagano, Japan. He entered TYO, Inc. in 2004 and TYO Inc. Dwarf division in 2006 where he has since been involved in development strategies for many Dwarf characters. Currently he works in film production, character development, web content, and picture books. Prominent collaboration partners include Tokyo Monorail Company, Ltd., Honke Yatsuhashi Nishio Co., Ltd., and NTT Corporation.
