The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum will exhibit “Wishes Through Our Hands-Japanese Quilts Made in Response to the 2011 Tsunami”. The exhibit will showcase 29 Japanese quilts which were made in response to the disaster, both by those who wished to comfort the survivors and by survivors in need of hope. Miwako Kimura, Sachiko Yoshida, and Noriko Koyama, three noted Japanese quilt artists and teachers, joined with their students to support the survivors in their quilt-making efforts. The Japan America Society of Southern Colorado is presenting Japanese Cultural Festival and Bazaar on October 4th, Saturday, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (Berger Hall). The Japanese cultural festival will feature Japanese dances, koto music, martial arts demonstrations and taiko drum performances. The bazaar will offer all sorts of Japanese wares and gift items brought especially from Japan for this event. Vendors will sell a variety of Japanese foods as well as washi paper crafts, kimono, haori, bonsai trees, and pottery.

The University of Utah and The Japan Foundation present this inspiring exhibition of photographic art, featuring Japanese photography of scenes from the Tohoku region of Japan. Although Tohoku is known as the area which was struck by a great earthquake and tsunami in 2011, this collection provides the chance more to emphasize the natural beauty and cultural environment of this beautiful region. Presented with the cooperation of the University of Utah Asia Center, College of Architecture + Planning, and the Department of Languages and Literature, in association with the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver.

The Consulate General of Japan in Denver is pleased to present a Tokyo-Style Traditional Japanese Kites Lecture and Demonstration by renowned Japanese kite master Mikio Toki, in conjunction with "Japanese Kite Festival" jointly organized by the City of Denver, Japan America Society of Colorado, and more. Mr. Toki, who gives lectures and workshops in many parts of the world every year, has specialized in Tokyo-style traditional kites since 1973. He will bring his dynamic painting technique and personable style to the lecture. Bring your kites and picnic chair to join the Japanese Kite Festival and see Mr. Toki's first appearance in Colorado. All ages and kites are welcome.

The Museum of International Folk Art has extended the exhibition "Tako Kichi: Kite Crazy in Japan" until July 27, 2014. In connection, Tokyo Kite Maker Mr. Mikio Toki and Mr. Masaaki Modegi, Chairman of the Japanese Kite Association and Curator of the Tokyo Kite Museum, will return to present gallery talks, demonstrations, lecture and workshops to diverse audiences during the week of March 17-23, 2014.
