Award of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY2021 (August 20, 2021)

On August 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the name of recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY2021. The following individual is awarded the Commendations from Colorado.

Nancy Todd, Former Colorado State Senator
(Services: Promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and the U.S.A.)
Former Colorado State Senator Nancy Todd served 5 terms (10 years) as State Representative and 2 terms (8 years) as State Senator representing the district of Aurora, Colorado's third largest city. Throughout her service, she consistently contributed to political, cultural, and economic exchange with Japan. In particular, at the suggestion of the former senator, and representatives, successive Consul Generals have received invitations from the General Assembly and worked toward strengthening relations between the state legislature and Japan by holding courtesy visits and congratulatory ceremonies. In addition to contributing to exchange with Japanese American companies and associations, as a member of the Aurora Sister Cities Committee, she also contributed to sister city exchanges with Japan as well as sister state-prefecture relations between Colorado and Yamagata.
The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups for outstanding achievements in international fields in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients. The Consulate-General of Japan in Denver extends its sincere congratulations to former Colorado Senator Nancy Todd, and expresses its deep respect for her contributions and achievements.
