Consul-General MIKAMI Yoichi attended the 20th anniversary symposium of Santa Fe Internment Camp Historical Marker (April 23, 2022)


On Saturday, April 23, Consul-General MIKAMI Yoichi attended the 20th anniversary symposium of the Santa Fe Internment Camp Historical Marker hosted by the Santa Fe Planning Committee and sponsored by the New Mexico chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, NMJACL.
Around 100 participants, including Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber, Executive Director Billy Garrett of the New Mexico History Museum, Executive Director David Inoue of the JACL, internee’s family members, and others attended the symposium. Following Keynote speeches on the history of the Santa Fe Internment Camp and internee’s daily life at the Camp, the panel discussions on activities to preserve the internee’s history and lessons learned from the Santa Fe Internment Camp took place in the symposium.
After the symposium, Consul-General MIKAMI joined in pilgrimage at the Santa Fe Internment Camp Historical Marker Site with internee’s family members, and delivered his short remarks at the Marker.
