Mayor Shigeru Horiuchi of Fujiyoshida City and other city officials visited Colorado Springs, a sister city of Fujiyoshida City, and deepened connections and relationships with Colorado Springs officials and citizens, including Mayor John Suthers.

The two cities, which celebrate the 60th anniversary of their sister city affiliation, began with an exchange of opinions at a dinner party held on Sunday, October 23rd. On Monday, October 24th, in Colorado Springs, they held a meeting at Mayor Suthers’ Office to welcome the delegations, followed by a luncheon meeting. In the afternoon, there was a special tree-planting ceremony and a tour of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum to deepen their relations. In the evening, at the welcome dinner, greetings were given by the mayors of both cities, the two cities’ cultures were introduced, and gifts were exchanged.

On October 25th, a concert was held at Colorado College with the participation of Taiko drummers from Fujiyoshida City and Colorado Springs. Before a dinner hosted by Colorado College, there was an Award Ceremony by Mayor Horiuchi, which conferred an Honorary Citizen Award on Prof. Joan Erickson, who has been working hard to bridge connections and relations between Japan and the U.S. for a long time.

The Consulate-General of Japan was invited, and Consul-General Yoichi Mikami and others attended several events.
