Colorado and Japan Agree to Mutually Simplify Driver's License Issuance Procedures(April 24, 2023)

The State of Colorado and Japan have agreed to simplify the process of issuing driver's licenses to those who are licensed to drive on the other side under a Memorandum of Cooperation, which was signed by Consul General Yoichi Mikami and Mark Ferrandino, Colorado Department of Revenue Executive Director in Denver on April 24, 2023.

 

Previously, applicants with a Japanese driver's license applying for a Colorado driver's license were required to take a knowledge test and demonstrate actual driving skills, but this agreement will be exempted from knowledge test and demonstrate actual driving skills. Under the agreement, applicants with a Colorado driver's license who apply for a Japanese driver's license will be exempted from the knowledge and skill examinations as well.

 

The applicant is not exempt from submitting the necessary documents for application, vision screening, payment of the application fee, etc. For more information, please refer to the following link.
