Night Market at Stanley: "Doggies in Kimono" (May 13, 2023)
On May 13, the Stanley Marketplace hosted “Night Market at Stanley”, an event to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) heritage month in cooperation with the City of Aurora and Visit Aurora. The Consulate-General of Japan in Denver was also invited.
The Night Market started at noon, and throughout the day, there were various performances, including music and dance performances from the local AANHPI communities, along with a mini dragon boat race. There were several vendors selling foods & drinks from all across the AANHPI community, among other goods. There was quite a turnout from beginning to end.
Consul-General MIKAMI, Deputy Consul-General AZECHI, and Consul ISHIZAKI attended the event. To finish out the evening, the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver presented "Doggies in Kimono." A dog fashion show with the dogs dressed in kimono, which proved to be popular with the crowd. In honor of Children’s Day, on May 5, the booth of the Consulate General of Japan also displayed a carp flag (Koinobori) and the Boys May Festival Dolls as an introduction to Japanese culture. The Sumitomo Corporation’s Denver Branch generously donated several bags of dog treats. Prior to the "Doggies in Kimono" show, Consul-General MIKAMI gave some remarks.
