On Monday, May 27, the 78th Annual Community Memorial Day Service for Japanese-American Veterans occurred at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.
 

The memorial service is held every year in May on Memorial Day in honor of Japanese-American Veterans. The memorial service is held by the Nisei Veterans Heritage Foundation, Simpson United Methodist Church, Tri-State/Denver Buddist Temple, as well as community volunteers.
 

The memorial service was moderated by Ms. Cindy Kondo, board member of the Nisei Veterans Heritage Foundation. Several hundred people, including Mr. Glenn Tagawa, President of the Nikkeijin-Kai of Colorado, Derek Okubo, President of Japan American Society of Colorado, Stacey Shigaya, CEO of Sakura Foundation, Tim Higashide, CEO of Sakura Square LLC, and the families of Japanese-American Veterans, attended the ceremony.
 

The Consulate-General of Japan in Denver was invited and Consul-General Mikami and Consul Furutani attended. Consul-General Mikami also had a moment of silence at the grave of former Colorado Governor Ralph Carr at Fairmount Cemetery.
