On July 6, the Colorado Okinawa Association 50th Anniversary Celebration was held in Castle Rock, Colorado, hosted by the Colorado Okinawa Association.

 

After a remark from Akemi Walters, President of the Colorado Okinawa Association, a video message from Mr. Denny Tamaki, Governor of Okinawa Prefecture was introduced. Consul-General Mikami also gave a short remark.

 

Six dancers from Okinawa, and three dancers from various parts of the U.S. were invited to the event, which featured 24 performances, including Okinawa dance, Okinawa karate, a Sanshin performance, and Okinawan songs. In addition, many booths were set up by members of the Okinawa Association selling handmade and Okinawa specialties.

 

The celebration was attended by more than 200 people, including members of the Colorado Okinawa Association and their families, Glen Tagawa, President of the Colorado Nikkeijin Kai, Shigeo Kimura, Vice President of the Colorado Nikkeijin Kai, and Kazuyuki Nakazato, Director of the Okinawa Prefecture DC Office. The Consulate-General of Japan in Denver was also invited to the event and Consul-General Mikami, Consul FURUTANI, and Vice-Consul Uema attended.
