Japan-Wyoming Energy Business Seminar (June 9, 2025)

2025/6/24

On June 9th, the Wyoming state government and the University of Wyoming, along with the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver, co-hosted the “Japan-Wyoming Energy Business Seminar” in Gillette, WY. The event served as a follow-up to Gov. Mark Gordon’s trade delegation to Japan in April, and Gov. Gordon was in attendance of the event.

Ahead of the seminar, a tour of the Wyoming Integrated Test Center took place. The facility conducts demonstrations and experiments related to Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) adjacent to a coal-fired power plant in Gillette, one of the world’s leading coal-producing regions.

The seminar included speeches from Gillette Mayor Shay Lundvall, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, Consul-General Hiroyuki Okajima, and Chief Executive Director Yotetsu Hayashi of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) San Francisco, along with a presentation by Director General Masashi Morimoto of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Silicon Valley on the introduction of Japan’s energy policy and carbon neutral initiatives, and two panels featuring Wyoming companies in the energy and mineral industry.

A networking reception was held after the seminar, where Gov. Gordon gave a toast.
