Consul-General Okajima’s Visit and Lecture at Salt Lake Community College (April 8, 2026)

On April 8, 2026, Consul-General Okajima visited Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in Salt Lake City, Utah, and delivered a lecture entitled “From Diplomacy to Community—Strengthening Japan-U.S. Ties in the Rocky Mountain Region.”
During his lecture, the Consul-General spoke about recent developments in Japan-U.S. relations, the roles and activities of the Consulate-General, and his own experiences as a diplomat. The event was attended by many participants and featured a lively question-and-answer session, reflecting strong interest from the audience.
Before and after the lecture, he observed a Japanese language class and a tutoring session offered at SLCC. He also exchanged views with key members of the college, including Mr. Tim Sheehan, Vice President for Government & Community Relations, and Dr. Roderic Land, Dean of the School of Humanities.
It is our sincere hope that this visit will further inspire interest in Japanese language studies at SLCC and contribute to the deepening of understanding of Japan within the community.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Associate Professor Takashi Ebira, Associate Professor of Humanities Claire Adams, and Ms. Tara Hogan, Administrative Assistant, as well as all those who assisted in arranging this visit.
