Meeting with Members of the Salt Lake City-Matsumoto Sister City Committee (April 9, 2026)

On April 9, Consul-General Okajima had the opportunity to meet members of the Salt Lake City-Matsumoto Sister City Committee. Honorary Consul Jani Iwamoto also participated in the discussion.

Among the attendees were Dr. Janet Misaka, former Chair of the Committee and recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in Spring 2016, Mr. Bob Springmeyer and Mrs. Gwen Springmeyer, who have dedicated many years to the Committee’s activities, and Ms. Olivia Johnson, who is currently involved in sister city exchanges at the city office. Both past and current committee members participated, sharing the history and valuable episodes of the sister city relationship, making for a meaningful exchange of views.

2028 will mark the significant 70th anniversary of the sister city partnership between the two cities. The Consulate-General hopes to make the most of this important momentum and continue contributing to the further development of grassroots exchanges between Japan and the United States in Salt Lake City.
