Amache Pilgrimage Memorial Ceremony at the Amache Camp Site (May 16, 2026)

2026/5/19

On May 16, a memorial ceremony was held at the former site of the Granada War Relocation Center (commonly known as Amache) in Granada, Colorado, where Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II.

This annual ceremony, held each May, commemorates the 120 individuals who passed away at the camp, as well as the 31 Japanese American soldiers from Amache who died on the battlefield in Europe and elsewhere. After the ceremony, a traditional potluck luncheon was held at Granada High School, which has long been involved in preservation efforts for the site.

Consul-General Okajima and consular staff attended the event. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Nikkeijinkai of Colorado and the Amache Preservation Society, as well as to everyone involved in organizing the memorial ceremony, including the bus tour from Denver.
