25th Anniversary Sister City Exchange Project between Ueda City and Broomfield City (July 26 – August 4, 2026)

This year, Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture and Broomfield City in Colorado celebrate the 25th anniversary of their sister city partnership. To commemorate this occasion, a Japan Festival was held in Broomfield City on July 31, where many citizens and related parties enjoyed Japanese culture. Consul-General Okajima attended and delivered remarks on the significance of the long-standing exchanges between the two cities.
As part of the exchange program, seven junior high school students from Ueda City experienced homestays in Broomfield and participated in local events, gaining valuable opportunities for international exchange. On August 4, together with students from Fujiyoshida City, they made a courtesy visit to the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver. Consul-General Okajima explained the role of the consulate and Japan-U.S. relations.
Additionally, Ueda and Broomfield became the first recipients of the "Japan-US Global Impact Grant" from Sister Cities International, and during the visit, a presentation on “Zero Waste Initiatives” was also held by both cities. We look forward to further deepening the ties between the two cities through continued exchanges among students and citizens, as well as new global impact projects.
