29th Nan Desu Kan (NDK) (September 4–6, 2026)

The 29th Nan Desu Kan (NDK), one of the largest anime and Japanese culture conventions in the Midwestern United States, was held successfully once again in Aurora, Colorado. Since its humble beginnings in 1997 as a small anime festival held at a university in downtown Denver, NDK has grown into a major event, attracting approximately 16,000 attendees this year.

Embracing the philosophy of “creating a place where everyone can feel safe and be themselves,” NDK places great importance on diversity and inclusivity, warmly welcoming attendees from all backgrounds and fandoms.

The Consulate-General actively participated again this year with the aim of deepening attendees’ understanding of Japanese culture through their interest in anime and manga. Our activities included Consul-General Hiroyuki Okajima serving as a judge for the cosplay contest, a joint information desk with the JET Alumni Association (JETAA), and a panel on Japanese cuisine by Consulate Chef Jin Jo, all of which were very well received.

NDK also plays a significant role in introducing various aspects of Japanese culture through a diverse range of panels, such as those led by Professor Alisa Freedman of the University of Oregon. In recent years, NDK has also strengthened its contributions to the Nikkei community through charity initiatives, including support for the Amache Preservation Society.

We are truly honored to collaborate with the wonderful NDK community, which is sustained by the dedication of over 250 volunteer staff members. We look forward to seeing everyone again at next year's NDK!
