Aki Matsuri (Fall Festival) Held in Albuquerque, New Mexico (September 27, 2026)

On September 27, 2026, the annual "Aki Matsuri (Fall Festival)" was held in Albuquerque. The Aki Matsuri, organized by the New Mexico Japanese American Citizens League (NMJACL), has been a major Japanese cultural event for over 40 years. This year’s festival featured a variety of activities, including taiko drumming, ikebana flower arranging, traditional dance, martial arts demonstrations, arts and crafts, and booths offering Japanese sweets and food, creating a lively atmosphere.
NMJACL has also been dedicated to preserving Japanese American history in New Mexico, including publishing the book "Confinement in the Land of Enchantment." Proceeds from the festival will be used for historical preservation and the establishment of a Japanese cultural center.
Consul-General Hiroyuki Okajima greeted attendees, saying, "I deeply respect everyone who has cherished Japanese culture and Japanese American history for many years and actively engaged with the local community." He enjoyed the wonderful autumn day together with the participants.
