Consul General Visits Area Schools with Japanese Language Programs (December 10, 2015)

On Thursday, December 10th, Consul-General Ito visited Boulder High School in Boulder and the Denver Center for International Studies (6th – 12th grade) in Denver, and met with the school principals and Japanese language instructors. 

In Boulder, Principal James Hill and instructor Mr. Mike Kleinkopf explained that currently there are 130 students study Japanese in Boulder High School and the number has been increasing since the program started in 1987.  To position itself at the forefront of providing a diverse education, the school looks forward to partnerships to improve education overall.  In Denver, Principal Theresa Mccorquodale and instructor Mr. Takaaki Matsumoto explained that there are 100 students study Japanese at Denver Center for International Studies, and they offer a Japan visit program to supplement and improve Japanese language studies. 

In response, the Consul-General expressed his appreciation and noted that the Japanese language is an important part of Japanese culture, and has much impact on mutual understanding and friendly relations between Japan and the US. The Consul-General mentioned that the Consulate is please to help support Japanese language education, and looks forward to proactive cooperation in the future.
