In the Japan Cup, there are four levels according to ability and each team consists of three students who have studied Japanese in high school and/or college. They compete against each other by answering questions about Japan and Japanese language. About 130 students from 12 schools registered for this year's competition. The 12 teams (3 teams from each level) that won the preliminary rounds in the morning proceeded on to the final rounds in the afternoon. Each student on every team passionately displayed their knowledge on Japan making it an intense competition.
