2016/5/19

On Tuesday, May 17th, a lecture that was officially supported by the Consulate was held at the Denver Art Museum in conjunction with the ongoing Samurai exhibit.  Approximately 120 persons attended the lecture.  Dr. Tianlong Jiao, the Joseph de Heer Curator of Asian Art at Denver Art Museum, gave opening remarks mentioning his pleasure in holding this third in a series of lectures, given by Dr. Robert Mintz from the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. Consul General Ito then congratulated the success of the Samurai exhibit and conveyed hope for deeper mutual understanding through this lecture and Samurai exhibit.
Following these remarks, Mr. Robert Mintz, chief curator and curator for Asian Art at the Walters Art Museum, lectured on the artistic beauty of traditional Japanese sword decoration and the samurai culture behind the beauty. The lecture concluded with a lively Q&A session.
