Consul General and Mrs. Ito attended the 70th Annual Community Memorial Day Service for Japanese American military veterans at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver on Monday, May 30th, 2016. This memorial service is held every year in May on Memorial Day in remembrance of Nisei (2nd Generation Japanese-American) military veterans who were members of the U. S. Army 442nd and other Regiments during World War II. The keynote speech was made by Mr. Rick Crandall, Founder and President of the Colorado Freedom Memorial. Mr. Rick Crandall mentioned the acts of the second-generation soldiers are a great legacy not only to persons of Japanese descent, but also in the world and he hopes that people understand the patriotism by the second-generation soldiers and inherit it. Following the speech, the Consul General, his wife, and many attendees from Japanese-American organizations participated in the flower offering.
