World renowned Japanese kite master, Mr. Mikio Toki visited Colorado from Wednesday, September 28th through Sunday, October 2nd to participate in school workshops and the 3rd Annual Japanese Kite Festival. He also attended a welcome reception that was held in his honor. Our office sponsored the school workshops and all events were sponsored by the Japan Foundation, Japan America Society of Colorado (JASC) and the City and County of Denver. Consul-General Ito attended the reception and festival, and also hosted a separate dinner for the kite master.
During the workshops, elementary and middle school students enjoyed making their kites and in the process were able to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture. At the festival, Colorado fall weather was at its best and the many attendees enjoyed watching the numerous handmade kites and 100-meter long ream kite fly high in the sky.
