On Friday, November 4th, a shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and koto performance entitled “Tone Colors of Autumn” was held at Swallow Hill Music Concert Hall in Denver. Three shakuhachi masters from Japan—Mr. Kazushi Matama, Mr. Teruo Furuya, and Mr. Kaoru Kakizakai performed with local kotoist, Ms. Miwa Sasaki. In his opening remarks, Consul-General Ito said that as a consulate office we will continue to support events that introduce Japanese culture. Approximately 70 local citizens and Japanese nationals attended the concert and were able to feel Colorado’s deepening fall season as they listened to the melodies of the traditional Japanese instruments.
