Kumamon, Official Mascot of Kumamoto, Visited the State of Colorado from February 11 to 15.

Kumamon received a warm welcome from Colorado Governor Jared Polis following his arrival. He visited Children’s Hospital in Aurora to cheer up children there with his enthusiastic dance. In the City of Denver, he attended various events to further promote Japan-U.S. economic relations and strengthen friendship between Japan and the State of Colorado.

Furthermore, Kumamon advanced the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics as well as the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan. He visited the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, exchanging friendly goodwill in workouts with Olympic athletes and coaches. Colorado Springs Mayor Suthers kindly made a speech to welcome him.

He also shared his enthusiasm for the Rugby World Cup 2019 with the staff at U.S. Rugby headquarters in Lafayette, Colorado, emphasizing that Kumamoto is one of the host locations of this thrilling worldwide event. The lovable Kumamon’s visit to Colorado successfully achieved the goal to stimulate interest in Japan anew among Coloradans, and further promote relations in a variety of fields including economic exchange, sister city relations, tourism, and people-to-people contact. We are very happy to have welcomed Kumamon’s special visit to Colorado.
