Remarks from the Consul General A view of the reception
On March 30th, a reception was hosted by our Consulate at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico on behalf of United States servicemen and women formerly stationed in Japan. A little more than 80 people attended the event, including servicemen and women and their families.
In his remarks, Consul General Hirakoba stated that as national security situations are getting severe in the Asian Pacific, the strong relations between Japan and the United States, as well as the presence of the U.S. military in the region are more important than ever. He also conveyed his sincere gratitude for the rescue effort Operation Tomodachi after the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster, and expressed his desire to strengthen relationships with dedicated servicemen and women even more.
After expressing her appreciation for the reception, Vice Commander Colonel Nickell of Kirtland Air Force Base stated that the defense relationships between our two nations have been strengthened and hoped that through American servicemen and women who were once stationed in Japan, the relations between our two countries will be enhanced even more.
Attendees also heard from three servicemen, each of whom shared their experiences while stationed in Japan, including memories of cooperation with the Japan Self Defense Force.
