JET Offers of Employment
JETs currently residing in Japan have until the first part of February to finalize their decisions regarding whether or not to re-contract for another year. Based on those decisions, the JET Program Office in Tokyo will determine how many positions will need to be filled for this upcoming year. Because the number of openings, as well as the number of applicants changes every year, we cannot give an accurate percentage or acceptance rate into the Program.
All interviewees will be informed of their selection status onto the JET Program during the first part of April. Both successful and unsuccessful candidates are informed of the status of employment offers. This information is sent out by email to the contact information you provided at the interview. If your email address changes for any reason, please inform the JET Program Office in Denver. In addition, please ensure your spam filters allow email from our office to come through. Adding the following email address to your address book will assist in this: jet.program.denver@de.mofa.go.jp .
Once you have accepted the offer of employment with JET by returning your Reply Form along with other specified documents to our office, the placement process will begin for you. This means that several departments will begin to match you with a Contracting Organization. If you decline the offer of employment with JET after you receive your placement, you will be disallowed from applying for the JET Program for a period of one year.
Placement information usually arrives in early May. Placements are decided by the various departments and staff in Tokyo. Your placements are not decided by the JET Office located in Denver. Once you receive your placement information, the JET Office in Denver will facilitate communications between you, your contracting organization and your JET predecessor so that situation-specific dialogs may begin as you prepare for your move to Japan.
The JET Office in Denver will continue to process your paperwork and ensure that you have as much information as you need to continue your departure preparations.
