Decorative Fabrics from Fujiyoshida City was Presented at City Council Meeting in Colorado Springs(1/24/2012)
On January 24th at a city council meeting in Colorado Springs, a ceremony was conducted to present Orimono fabrics given from Fujiyoshida City in Japan. Consul General Ono attended the ceremony. These fabrics depicted Tale of Genji Scroll, the famous ancient Japanese literary work.
Since this year marked the 50th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Colorado Springs and Fujiyoshida City, the “Yoshida no Himatsuri (Yoshida Fire Festival),” which is going to be designated as a important intangible folk-cultural property, will be held at the base of the Rocky Mountains to commemorate this anniversary.
Plans for this event and many other commemorative events are currently in the early stages of planning.
Along with decorative fabrics, discussions about these upcoming events were introduced at the city council meeting. The decorative fabrics are being displayed at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum.
Prior to the ceremony, Consul General visited Mayor Bach of the city of Colorado Springs. With confirming exchamges among provincial cities is important to strengthen Japan-US relationship, they agreed to promote their cooperative relationship further.
