Spring 2012 Decoration Conferment Ceremony for non-Japanese citizen(The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Dr. William Higuchi on 2/19/2012)

 

Salt Lake City, UT resident, Dr. William I. Higuchi, was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon in spring 2012. A conferment ceremony was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, on February 19, and Consul-General Ono awarded the Order and certificate to Dr. Higuchi.


Dr. Higuchi, who is a renowned pharmacologist, not only in the U.S. but also internationally, has contributed for many years to Japan-U.S. academic exchange through research guidance to Japanese pharmacologists and Japanese students while at the University of Michigan and University of Utah.
Even after retirement, he dedicated himself to develop pharmaceutical science studies in Japan, through giving instruction and lectures at Japanese universities and laboratories.

In addition, Dr. Higuchi has contributed significantly to enhance the status of Japanese Americans in U.S. society through his various activities. This includes his role as a Special Adviser for the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation, which was created to hand down the history of the Heart Mountain Relocation Center, where Dr. Higuchi himself was interned as a Japanese American Nisei during World War II.

The presentation of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Dr. Higuchi was in recognition of his long term contribution.

 

The Consulate-General of Japan at Denver offers its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Higuchi in receiving this award for his lifelong contribution.
