Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial Commemorative Cherry Tree Planting in Colorado Springs(4/18/2012)

 

A commemorative cherry tree planting was held on Wednesday, April 18 at Acacia Park in Colorado Springs, celebrating the Japan-US Cherry Blossom Centennial.
Approximately 50 guests were in attendance, including Colorado Springs city officials and officers of the Fuji-Yoshida Sister City committee, and other citizens of the city.

To begin the official ceremony with, Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach offered remarks noting the special friendship between Japan and Colorado Springs over the years, particularly the long sister relationship with Fuji-Yoshida city.
Consul-General Ono also spoke, expressing the hope that trees given to the city for this occasion become an enduring symbol of Japan-US friendship.

The guests were treated to a beautiful performance of the Japanese song “Sakura” (Cherry Blossom) by the children’s choir group from Colorado Springs, and they enjoyed the planting festivities in a very friendly atmosphere.
