2012 Japan-America Society of Colorado Japan Cup(4/21/2012)
On Saturday, April 21, the Japan-America Society of Colorado, in cooperation with the Consulate General of Japan at Denver and the Japan Foundation and other organizations hosted its 2012 Japan Cup competition at the University of Denver.
This year's Japan Cup featured a total of 13 middle schools, high schools and colleges participating in the display of knowledge about Japan and the Japanese language.
The competitors were divided into four levels and the competition was intense, at some matches resulting in tie scores and exciting tiebreaking sessions.
The winning teams at each level were presented with a trophy and certificate from JASC President T.R. Reid and Consul-General Ikuhiko Ono.
At the conclusion, Mr. Reid used a metaphor about climbing Mt. Everest to commend the challenging spirit of students who study Japanese, one of the most difficult foreign languages for American students. Consul-General Ono also referred to the outstanding enthusiasm of the students in studying Japanese, along with the comendable professionalism and guidance of their teachers.
