Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial Commemorative Cherry Tree Planting at Simpson United Methodist Church (Sunday June 3, 2012)
A commemorative cherry tree planting was held on Sunday, June 3 at Simpson United Methodist Church, celebrating the Japan-US Cherry Blossom Centennial. The church has long been a center of the Japanese American community's activity in this area.
Approximately 50 guests were in attendance for the ceremony, including representatives from the church, Consul-General & Mrs. Ono, Mr. McGoff, District #2 Representative and Ms. Cook, District Representative from the City of Arvada, and representatives from the Japanese-American community. On this day three cherry trees were planted, while everyone sang the Japanese song "Sakura" (Cherry Blossom).
It is hoped that the cherry trees planted at the church will grow strong to symbolize the friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and the U.S., and become a part of the local community for generations to come.
