Ms. Elizabeth Downs Kurata will participate in the "Invitation Program for Japanese American Students" as one of five delegates from across the US. The program is to provide new generations of Japanese American high school students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Japan and to strengthen mutual exchange with Japanese of their same generation.
Ms. Kurata, having learned Judo since her childhood, has a deep interest in Japanese culture. Currently, she is a member of the Mile High chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League along with her father who is a third generation Japanese-American. As she graduated from St. Mary's High School in Colorado Springs this May, she plans to enrole in a university this fall, with her hope to become a medical doctor in the future.
The 12 day program begins June 29th, and she will experience high school classes, excursions to different locales, and a home stay in Japan.
On June 9th, she visited Consul General's residence with her parents, and expressed her enthusiasm towards Japan and her visit on this program.
