Japan-U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial Commemorative Cherry Tree Planting and Tea Ceremony at Denver Botanic Gardens (June 20, Wednesday)
On Wednesday, June 20, approximately 260 guests attended a commemorative cherry tree planting and tea ceremony demonstration held at the Denver Botanic Gardens, coinciding with the opening of the new Bill Hosokawa Memorial Bonsai Pavilion.
During the planting ceremony, Consul General Ono explained the history of the Japan-US Cherry Blossom Centennial. He further expressed the hope that the young cherry trees will grow to be cherished by the people of Denver along with the beautiful new Japanese garden, as a place for peace of mind for generations to come.
A tea ceremony demonstration followed, performed by the local tea ceremony group "Sho Fu Kai" with the beautiful backdrop of the Japanese garden. Guests were served ceremonial green tea and dried confectionaries with a cherry blossom motif.
