The Foreign Minister’s Commendation was presented to Mr. Raymond Uno of the State of Utah (August 29, Wednesday)

On August 29, a conferment ceremony was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, to honor and confer the Foreign Minister's Commendation upon recipient Mr. Raymond Uno, president of Japanese Community Preservation Committee, Salt Lake City and former judge of the State of Utah. An official Certificate of Commendation along with a commemorative gift were presented to him.

Mr. Raymond Uno, a prestigious leader of the Japanese American Community in the U.S., has served as president of Japanese American Citizens League-Salt Lake Chapter, and of the National Japanese American Citizens League. He has contributed greatly to the promotion of the status of the Japanese American Comunity, as well as to the conservation of the history of Japanese immigrants in Utah for long time. He is still an enthusiastic leader in the Japanese American Community and highly respected, not only by the people in the Rocky Mountain Region, but also by people across the country.

At the ceremony, a congratulatory message from the Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert was presented and distinguished guests from the Salt Lake County, such as County Mayor Peter Corroon, joined despite their busy schedules to congratulate Mr. Uno for receiving the commendation.
Following the ceremony, Jeanette Misaka, Governor of the Intermountain District Council of the JACL and childhood friend of Mr. Uno, offered a toast to begin the reception. She introduced Mr. Uno by sharing humorous stories about him from their childhood, which made for a festive atmosphere.

We sincerely express our deep respect for Mr. Uno’s longstanding contributions to the friendship between the US and Japan, and congratulate him on receiving the Foreign Minister's Commendation.
