The Japan America Society of Southern Colorado (JASSC) annual dinner (August 25th, 2013)

The annual dinner of the Japan America Society of Southern Colorado (JASSC) was held in Colorado Springs on August 25th, with Consul Ono in attendance from the Consulate. JASSC President Paul Maruyama, recipient of a distinguished Japanese Imperial award this year, gave opening remarks to the guests, and was followed by a report by students from Rampart High School and Granada High School who visited Japan recently. A group of Rampart students visited Japan under the Kakehashi Project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. A student from Granada HS visited Japan to attend the John Manjiro Summit held in Shimane Prefecture in July. Granada high school also maintains and preserves the site of the WWII Amache Internment Center, and reported that Camp Amache has received steward status under Preserve America, a program initiated by First Lady Michelle Obama.
