Consul General’s courtesy call to Superintendant of Air Force Academy (December 3, 2013)

Consul General Ono paid a courtesy call to Lieutenant General Michelle Johnson, Superintendent of the US Air Force Academy, on December 3rd, 2013. The Consul General extended a congratulatory message for her appointment and exchanged views on how to expand interactions between the Consulate General of Japan and the Academy. The Consul General mentioned that Japan sees the US-Japan alliance as its main linchpin of foreign policy, and that it is encouraging for Japan that the Academy attaches importance to Japanese language education, which will potentially increase Japanese speakers in the ranks of future US Air Force officers. In response, she shared the same view and recognized the importance of studying foreign language for cadets. She is the first female Superintendent of the Academy.
