Economic Dialogue Between Japan and New Mexico

The Consulate General of Japan and the Los Angeles offices of JETRO joined to participate in an economic dialogue with representatives from various organizations New Mexico, in the interest of building economic ties between Japan and New Mexico. Participants in the meeting & discussion included representatives from the State of New Mexico and Los Alamos County, among others. This dialogue follows a meeting between Consul General Ono and Governor Susana Martinez last November, in which it was agreed to work together toward expanded relations. In this dialogue both sides actively explored potential opportunities for mutual benefit, including such topics as smart grid technology and renewable energy, as well as possible growth in the field of oil & gas. The dialogue was followed by a well attended reception, with several state legislators, county council members from Los Alamos, and representatives from federal congressional offices on hand. A message from Governor Martinez expressing high expectations for trade growth and Japanese investment in New Mexico was delivered by her Chief of Staff Keith Gardner.
