2014 JET Departure Reception (July 25, 2014)

On Friday, July 25th the Consulate General of Japan in Denver hosted a Pre-Departure Orientation and Departure Reception for 47 participants of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, currently in its 28th year. These young people will spend 1-5 years in Japan working at local municipalities as Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) or Coordinators for International Relations (CIR). Deputy Consul General Yamaguchi delivered a message at the Departure Reception thanking everyone who has contributed to the program this year and asking participants to be not only teachers of English but also students of Japanese culture in their new community. In addition, Ms. Emily Freeman, Vice President of the JET Alumni Association Rocky Mountain chapter, shared words of advice for the new participants and encouraged them to stay actively involved in alumni and Japan-related activities after completing the program. The 2014 Rocky Mountain JETs departed Denver the following day and we wish them all the best in Japan.
