On Aug. 25th, the opening reception was held for Tohoku – Through the eyes of Japanese Photographers, a photo exhibition co-hosted by the University of Utah and Japan Foundation, at the University of Utah's College of Architecture and Planning.

Representing the University of Utah at the reception, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ruth Watkins said this exhibition shows the importance of acknowledging and accepting differences for the 21st century. Consul-General Ono expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Utah for their support to Tohoku during the 2011 earthquake and his hope for expanding mutual understanding between Utah and Japan through this exhibit. Ms. Claudia Nakano of the Office of Multicultural Affairs conveyed Governor Herbert's appreciation for the collaborative partnership with the Consulate-General of Japan and the University of Utah. Finally, Mayor Ben McAdams expressed plans to visit Japan this year and strengthen relationships with Magna's sister city of Yuzawa as Japan is politically, economically, and culturally a very important partner and friend.

Many Japanese American community leaders and Japanese researchers attended, and the reception was enjoyed by all. Attendees were also able to experience tea ceremony by Mrs. Haruko Sadler and her students.
