Japan Imperial Decoration The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette conferred upon Judge Raymond S. Uno, Former President of National Japanese American Citizens League (JACL)
The Consulate-General of Japan in Denver is pleased to announce that Judge Raymond S.Uno, a former National President of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), has been named as one of the recipients this year of the Japan Imperial Decoration, The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.
Judge Uno has been contributing to JACL activities for many years, including as President at the national level as well as of the Salt Lake City chapter. Notably, he was key in initiating the movement to request redress and compensation from the US government for the treatment of Japanese-American internees during the WWII, when he was the president of national JACL in the 1970’S. He also played an instrumental role in protecting Japan Town in Salt Lake City. Further, he has long been keen in spreading Japanese culture in Utah, among other things as an instructor of Judo and through involvement in maintenance of the Japanese garden in Salt Lake City. The Consulate-General of Japan at Denver is honored to offer its sincere congratulations to Judge Uno for this deserved recognition of his long service.
