Lecture and Demonstration on Japanese Anime(November 17, 2014)
A lecture and demonstration on Japanese anime, co-hosted by Colorado College and the Japan Foundation in cooperation with the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver, was held at Colorado College on November 17th, 2014. Deputy Consul General Yamaguchi attended the event from the Consulate and gave a greeting and remarks. Mr. Hirokazu Minegishi, an internationally known animator specializing in stop motion film, spoke about how he developed his original characters Komaneko and Domokun. He demonstrated how he shoots stop motion pictures using actual dolls of these two characters. In addition, Mr. Eiji Maesaka, also a producer from Dwarf, the same studio company as Mr. Minegishi, gave a presentation about character development in Japanese animation. For this event, about 120 anime fans from around Colorado Springs were in attendance along with Colorado College students, including high ranking officials from the US Air Force Academy and City Council members. Also, before the presentation, a reception was held right next door to the venue and Japanese traditional tea ceremony was performed by the local tea ceremony masters.
