Consul General Ono Paid a Courtesy Visit to Two Japanese Americans Elected to Utah State Legislature.(December 5, 2014)
Consul General Ono made a courtesy visit to newly elected Utah State Senator Jani Iwamoto, at a caucus meeting room in the Utah State Capitol building on December 5th. Senator-elect Iwamoto is a third-generation Japanese American, working as an attorney. The Consul General congratulated her on her success, and Senator Iwamoto expressed her resolution to promote mutual understanding between Japan and Utah in various areas as a Japanese American state senators in Utah. Later in the evening, Consul General Ono also visited with State Senator Brian Shiozawa, the other Japanese American who was elected to the Utah State Senate in 2012. Consul General Ono and Senator Shiozawa discussed the future expansion of economic relationships between Japan and Utah . This is a first time to have two Japanese Americans State Senators in Utah, a development which is expected to contribute toward strengthening the relationship between Japan and Utah significantly.
