Luncheon with Professor Emeritus John Matsushima, Colorado State University (July 18, 2025)

On July 18th (Friday), Consul-General Okajima hosted a luncheon for Professor Emeritus John Matsushima of Colorado State University's Department of Agricultural Sciences.
Professor Matsushima, a Japanese American born and raised in Colorado, is a renowned researcher boasting a brilliant career spanning over 70 years in animal science and livestock production. Even at the impressive age of 104 this year, he remains remarkably active and energetic.
One of Professor Matsushima’s achievements, the 1960s development of "Steam Flaking Corn" processing technology for cattle feed, revolutionized the livestock industry with its efficiency and sustainability. It continues to be used widely throughout the world, not just in the United States.
The Consulate-General was privileged to hear from Professor Matsushima and the other attendees about the history of Japanese Americans before the war and about Professor Matsushima's dramatic and eventful life, filled with challenges and discrimination, which culminated in his unparalleled achievements. On this occasion, we would like to once again express our deep respect and heartfelt gratitude for Professor Matsushima’s many years of dedicated service.
