Joint Reception at Buckley Space Force Base for U.S. Military Members who served in Japan (December 15, 2025)









On December 15th, the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver and Space Base Delta 2 co-hosted a reception at Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora, CO. The reception was attended by service members with experience being stationed in Japan, U.S. military personnel, and community leaders.
Following the national anthem of both nations by the U.S. Air Force Academy Winds, Deacon Craig Fucci gave opening remarks in Japanese. Consul-General Okajima gave remarks expressing his gratitude to Buckley base personnel who took part in organizing the reception, his deep respect and appreciation to those who served with U.S. Forces in Japan, and his desire to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance. Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera of Colorado gave remarks on the growing relationship between Japan and Colorado across various fields, and expressed her hope for further cooperation, particularly in the space sector.
Members and Supporters of the Colorado Okinawa Kenjinkai performed Okinawan dances and sanshin music. Attendees also joined the final performance of Kachaashi, an Okinawan festive dance.
At the end, Lt. Col. Friedell and his wife shared episodes from their time in Japan while stationed in Iwakuni. Finally, Col. Murray, Commander of Space Base Delta 2, gave a speech emphasizing the importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance and defense cooperation with Japan in space, while expressing his desire to further strengthen collaborations with Japan.
Japanese cuisine and sake were served at the reception, providing an opportunity for attendees to share memories of Japan, deepen friendships, and reaffirm the strong Japan-U.S. alliance.
