The 52nd Denver Cherry Blossom Festival (June 27-28, 2026)

On the weekend of June 27–28, 2026, the 52nd Denver Cherry Blossom Festival was held at the historic Sakura Square, with the Consulate-General of Japan also participating. Consul-General Okajima delivered opening remarks, emphasizing how Sakura Square has long served as the heart of the Japanese American community—a place of cultural exchange, family connections, and shared history.
This year’s festival was especially meaningful as Colorado approaches its 150th anniversary as the Centennial State and the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. To honor these milestones, earlier this year the Government of Japan presented 250 cherry trees to the United States, symbolizing our nations’ enduring friendship and shared values. May these cherry trees remind us that our bonds will continue to blossom for generations to come.
Together with the JET Alumni Association Rocky Mountain Chapter (JETAARM) and the Denver Takayama Sister City Committee, the Consulate-General hosted a collaborative booth, connecting with members of the Japanese American community as well as many guests experiencing Japanese culture for the first time. Despite the summer heat, the festival was bustling with visitors and full of excitement.
Thanks to the dedication of organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and all attendees, the Cherry Blossom Festival has become one of Denver’s most cherished traditions. Sakura Square continues to stand as a symbol of the Japanese American community’s history and the ties that unite us all.
We express our deepest gratitude to everyone involved. May the friendship between Japan and the United States continue to flourish.
