Departure of the 40th JET Program Participants (July 24th, 2026)

On July 24th, the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver held a pre-departure orientation for the outgoing cohort of the 40th Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. A send-off reception was held after the orientation, hosted by Deputy Consul-General Mika Takayama and attended by alumni and supporters of the Program.

During the orientation, in addition to logistical preparations, the new participants were congratulated on reaching this significant milestone and reminded of the significance of their role, not only as educators and interpreters in Japan, but as grassroots ambassadors who will serve as living examples of cross-cultural exchange.

At the reception, DCG Takayama gave opening remarks, followed by encouraging words from Ms. Jessyca Livingston, Executive Director of the U.S. JET Program Alumni Association (USJETAA), Ms. Emily Meraqui, a representative from the outgoing JET cohort, and Mr. Brad Breiten, President of the JET Program Alumni Association of the Rocky Mountains (JETAARM). Participants enjoyed a friendly atmosphere as they mingled and shared their excitement, apprehension, and memories with one another in advance of their imminent departure.

The new JETs departed for Japan the following day (July 25th) smoothly and in high spirits. We look forward to their contributions in Japan, and hearing their stories upon their return!
