Mr. Derek Okubo, Executive Director of Human Rights and Community Partnerships for the City of Denver, recently participated in the Japanese American Leadership Delegation to Japan (JALD). On April 22 at the Consul General's residence, he made a presentation about his experiences on his visit to Japan under the JALD program for several leading members of the Japanese American community in Denver. Mr. Okubo's presentation covered the contents of JALD program, including a courtesy call to Prime Minister Abe and meeting with members of the Diet. At the end of his presentation, he mentioned that the experience renewed his commitment toward working for strengthened US-Japan relations. After the presentation, Mr. Kenzo Kawanabe, a JALD participant 2013, announced the establishment of a new US-Japan Council Rocky Mountain Chapter in Colorado. He added that an official launching ceremony will be held at the Consul General's Residence on June 6th and that Irene Hirano, the national US-Japan Council President, is scheduled to attend.
