2022 MEXT Scholarships


NOTICE: From today onward, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the 2022 MEXT Scholarship selection process is subject to change, including cancellation of this year's selection process.

Monbukagakusho (文部科学省), the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), offers six different scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan. If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for the MEXT Scholarship, please read JASSO's (Japan Student Services Organization) scholarship publication Scholarships for International Students in Japan which provides details on scholarships offered by other organizations. This scholarship information is based on an annual survey conducted by JASSO.

The following four scholarships are available to apply at the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver. Please check the link below for the application guidelines, application process and screening schedules. The written exams for Undergraduate Students and Specialized Training College (Senshu-Gakko) Students program applicants will be conducted at the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver with required social distancing measures in place. All interviews will be conducted online for the 2022 selection process. Detailed information will be announced in the interview invitation.

The Following MEXT Scholarship applications for 2022 are now available

Applications must be submitted to the Consulate-General of Japan in Denver by Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Applications received after 5pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 will not be considered.

Application for the 2021 Japanese Studies Students scholarship has closed

Applications were due by 5pm on Friday, February 19, 2021. The next cycle of applications will be available between December 2021-January 2022.
